Enterprise Brand Maturity Model

Enterprise Brand Maturity Model

The Smartitaly Communications Enterprise Brand Maturity Model draws on years of hands-on experience working alongside major Italian companies and multinationals. In complex corporate environments, we have seen communication often confined to a tactical role, not always aligned with business objectives. We have therefore distilled our expertise into a proprietary framework: a rigorous, multidimensional approach that moves beyond subjective perceptions, accurately measures the health of corporate communication and turns it into a strategic driver of growth, value protection and governance for the Board.

OUR METHOD

One framework, multiple perspectives.

Risk Assessment and Stakeholders Management

Assesses whether the company has a clear, realistic understanding of its reputational, positioning and market risks, rather than operating without identifying its blind spots. The main aim is to eliminate these blind spots and prevent latent crises before they can undermine brand equity. The assessment focuses on detailed mapping of critical audiences, risk auditing to identify brand vulnerabilities and a comprehensive brand audit to check alignment between the internally perceived identity and market reality.

Intelligence and Insights

Examines whether a structured system for monitoring and listening to media, social channels and competitors matches the company’s actual scale and can turn raw data into strategic decisions. The aim is to move beyond instinct and ground strategies in objective evidence. We assess the adoption of data intelligence and sentiment analysis tools, continuous competitor monitoring through dedicated benchmarks, and the quality of periodic reporting and management dashboards.

Strategic Alignment and Governance

Checks whether communication is deeply integrated into the Board’s vision and aligned with business strategy, or operates as an isolated department without clear message governance. The aim is to give communication a lasting place at the C-level table as a tool for strategic direction. The analysis measures the active involvement of senior management, consistency and overall control of key messages, and alignment between commercial objectives and the corporate narrative.

Business Impact and Growth

Measures whether and how much communication actively contributes to business growth, examining whether its economic return, impact on the sales funnel and contribution to brand equity can be quantified. The aim is to connect communication budgets directly to revenue and growth KPIs. We assess communication’s actual contribution to lead generation, measurement of ROI and economic value generated, and measurable growth in the brand’s perceived market value.

Resilience and Agility

Examines how responsive the organisation is to sudden market changes or reputational emergencies, assessing crisis protocols, management preparedness and decision-making speed. The aim is to protect the business through proven crisis management processes and effective leadership communication. The analysis considers emergency response plans, training for senior leaders in communicating under pressure, and the agility of approval and response processes.

Ecosystem and Execution

Assesses the effectiveness, quality and consistency of delivery across corporate touchpoints, examining the internal team’s skills, digital maturity and the strategic implementation of Artificial Intelligence in operational processes. The aim is to optimise operational efficiency by integrating advanced technologies and upskilling programmes. We assess consistency across digital and traditional channels, the strategic use of AI-based tools in workflows, and the team’s level of specialisation and continuing development.

How we measure your brand

From control to leadership: the model’s maturity levels

NASCENT

Processes within the dimension are absent or entirely sporadic, managed reactively and without a structured vision, measurement metrics or alignment with senior management.

DEFINED

Regular procedures, defined activities and basic monitoring tools are in place, although they are not yet fully integrated with business KPIs, overall governance and market best practices.

ADVANCED

The process is fully mature, supported by strong business integration, active use of data intelligence and AI, and a highly qualified team that sets a benchmark for best practice.

To make the score on each radar dimension easy to interpret, the model uses a progressive scale from 1 to 10, divided into three broad classes of management maturity. This segmentation allows management to understand its position immediately, from a purely reactive profile to strategic leadership, providing an objective basis for gap analysis and planning the organisation’s growth.

OUR METHOD

3 stages for an effective communication system

  1. STEP 1

    Audit

Through targeted interviews, document analysis and assessment of existing metrics, we establish the company’s actual AS-IS position across every dimension of the model and produce an initial summary assessment.

  2. STEP 2

    Strategy

We develop a detailed gap analysis by comparing the results with market benchmarks and the desired positioning objectives (Defined or Advanced), mapping the necessary path of development.

  3. STEP 3

    Deployment

We turn strategy into concrete action by activating our targeted integrated communication, technology development and capacity building services to close the gap and reach the TO-BE target.
